Caramelicious marijuana seeds grow from seed to harvest: VEGETATIVE

January 19th 2009

My last grow was 34 years ago... I decided it was time to jump back in. I chose Caramelicious from AllPotSeeds.com because they are supposed to be easy to grow, fairly potent and high yielding. We shall see.

Germination went well and all ten seeds came up. I've got them all under a bank of 6, 4ft T5 Fluorescents and am keeping the lights within 2 - 3 inches above the tops. I am growing in soil, because that is the medium I am most familiar with.

They are currently in the closet of the room that I will be using for later stages of growth and will move to two 600w hps on a motorized track system.

Here are some photos of the seedlings, as of right now I have them in 18oz translucent green cups. I will be covering them once I see that a good root system has started. They look really healthy and seem to like the T5’s. Hopefully they’ll keep it up.

Its been 2 weeks since we germinated the ten Caramelicious seeds and they are growing very nicely. Every one of them are working on their third set of leaves and we havent had any problems with burns yet. They are still under the T5’s and the temp is a stable 73 degrees. In the other grow area we are preping to install the two 600 watt HPS bulbs and ballasts. We also have to wait for a piece to assemble the motorized track and then that room will be ready to home the plants.

The plants are looking great and they are a nice healthy green. The node spacing is really close, so I cant wait to see how bushy these plants get. Also the close node spacing will provide me with some very strong clones. I plan on cloning them in the future just to have some on reserve. I’ve noticed that they seem to droop after watering, but bounch right back up as soon as the top soil dries. The T5’s are still about 5’’ above the tops of the plants.

Theres not much change over all but it should be noted that internode branching is starting to form and the veggitation looks really good. In the area that the plants are in there is good air circulation so the stems of the plants are very strong which in turn will lead to strong internode branching. The temp is still the same and since the plants are all still the same height the light spacing is the same. I plan on transplanting them into bigger containers as soon as I have the extra time. Overall everything looks perfect!

Well I guess I found the time to transplant them today. I really didn’t want to delay the process anylonger than need be. I know its still under the first 24 hours since the transplant but it has been some time since I did it and they seem to be taking kindly to their new homes. To transplant all ten of them it took about an hour and a half plus clean up time. I’m glad that I got it out of the way early though. Now the roots have some extra room to move around and the plants got some new soil added to them. Because I transplantd them I lowered the lights a little bit just to give them a little extra light and heat. They are still under the T5 flourscents but I’m happy to announce that we have got the other grow area up and running. Soon we will move the plants into that area and let them bask in one of the 600 watt HPs bulbs. We plan to add the second one later, but so were on the safe side were going to add them one at a time. The light has an exhaust system hooked up to it so theres not a major heat increase and also so the odor isnt as overwhelming. The walls are covered with reflective mylar which is available at most hardware stores. For the floor we covered it with a white plastic drop cover. This is so the floor is reflective and it makes cleanup a lot easier and the room stays alot cleaner.

Its been exactly one month and 2 days since we dropped the Caramelicous seeds into water to germinate them. I’d say that they are moving along great and look really excellent. We still havent moved them to under the Hps yet but I’m happy with them as they are now so I’m going to leave them under the T5’s for a little while longer. They seem to absolutly love the light that their getting now so I can only imagine how there going to feel under 600 watts!

Not much new to report, just the same old same old. By that I mean each and every day there is a significant amount of growth on each of the plants so that has become a normal daily occurance in this grow. Caramelicious really is a great strain and it grows so well. I just thought I’d share some photos of how much they’ve grown in three days.

Febuary 12th 2009

Well I looked into the grow area today and it looked like the plants were getting crowded and wanted more room so I decided to move them into the other area with the HPS. I fired up the ballast and the room lit up with joy. I set the timmer for 18 and 6 still, and set it for the exact same times as the other room. Changing the times could send the plants into an early flower cycle. I added all the Caramelicious and a few other plants I had to the area with the HPS and I hope that the extra light gives the plants a nice growth spurt. The node and internode spacing on all the plants look great and they were starting to get bushy under the T5’s so I can’t wait to see how bushed out they get under the HPs.

Since we are venting out through the attic, we were concerned about how to elevate co2 levels. We have a good air exchange in the room and it brings in air from the rest of the house. Co2 levels have been right around 500 parts per million. Today we introduced a small propane heater and it doubled our co2 levels. 1,000ppm isn't bad for now. We also started a light nutrient program again today. They seem to be pretty happy.

This propane heater has really boosted the Co2 levels within the room and it shows in the plants. I knows it has only been two days but the foliage on the plant is a deeper color and seems to have thickened. So we have decided that we are going to “Top” some of the plants tommorrow. We've also decided that we cannot put off transplanting any longer. We had been waiting on the linking hardware for the motorized track to connect the other hps but We’ll just hard mount them for now and start to transplant all the plants into larger containers.

Today we transplanted all ten of the Caramelicious and my other ones into 5 gallon containers. Hopefully this will be their final homes. We also hung the other 600 watt HPS lighting system to the room. It still needs to be hooked up to the motorized track, but the trolley piece for that is still on backorder. The additional light really illuminates both the room and every inch of the plants. Now that we have a Co2 booster and 2 600 watt HPS bulbs going the plants have to be in heaven. The lighting schedule is still 18 hours on and 6 off and we turned the speed up on the oscillating fan to give more circulation to the room.

We raised the lights quite a bit and the plants seem to be doing much better, we're also getting better light coverage because of it. We topped some of the plants today and I know we're topping at a later stage than most people prefer to, but we decided that waiting this long would be more beneficial to us. Its only been three days since we hung the second HPS light and the plants have fanned out a lot more than usual.
